JULY 23RD 2019 - 7:00 PM - Old Church-Burritt Museum

Featured Performance by Chapman James

James Chapman Polhemus (stage name - Chapman James) was born in Stuttgart Germany and raised in the Deep South (now residing in Hoover, AL). Chapman’s insights as a folk songwriter are unique, but honest and simple. He weaves a song in the most melodic and beautiful way, taking you on a musical journey that is beyond the expected and leaves you wanting more. He has an incredible wide array of cover songs in his repertoire that highlight many artists from the 60’s and 70’s,including folks singers such as John Denver and Cat Stevens, but for those who know him well, they prefer to hear songs that he wrote from his heart.

Chapman attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts and has a degree in Spanish and a minor in mechanical engineering. Having been involved in everything from theatre, ballet, mission work, songwriting, music, and working to earn a living for 4 children as a computer reports developer, he is a true Renaissance man. Chapman is like the Clark Kent of musician/songwriters who works a normal job at the bank and then puts on his cloak as a musician and the world watches and listens in amazement.

He can make you laugh or cry, drawing you in with his conversations between songs that make you feel like he is the brother you never knew. He often performs with Sally Bell Biggs, a classmate from the Alabama School of Fine Arts, called the Birmingham Folk duo. His upcoming performances include Berkley bob’s in Cullman, The Abbey Coffee House in Birmingham, and the Daniel Day Gallery in Birmingham. He has also played at the VBCC playhouse for the Jim Parker showcase series, which you can listen to this live performance through CDbaby, and has played several times for the John Denver tribute festival in Birmingham.
