Welcome to HTMA!

As a non-profit organization, our purpose is to preserve and perpetuate the traditional music of a variety of genres, instruments, and styles. This includes what is commonly referred to as folk and old-time music, but also more contemporary music that will become the traditional music of the future. We strive to provide wholesome and informative family entertainment at every event.

On Saturday, May 2nd, HTMA is proud to host a FREE concert by The Allen Watkins Band, in advance of their new album coming out this summer. While there is no admission fee, we encourage you to register on the Calendar to be sure to get a seat. We're expecting an SRO crowd for this show, so please don't wait to register.

On May 20th, our Coffeehouse stage welcomes the Ricky j Taylor Band for an evening of song rooted in our southern traditions. Joining Ricky (photo, left) will be some award-winning musicians, including Jim & Inge Wood, Angela Wood, and Alex Stidham.

The opener for Ricky's band will be Chip Gulbro and Mark Copeland, appearing as MC LIVE. You will not want to miss this part of the Coffeehouse - Chip and Mark will leave you wanting more of their music! And you can get some of that - Chip's new band, the Red Clay Jazz Society, will present a show on June 5th.

On Thursday, May 7th, at 6:30 in the HTMA studio, Mike Ball will host Brett Carlisle for another lovely evening in the Behind the Music series. Brett's music is deeply inspired by his early love of gospel music, and he fuses this genre with the "grit" of the blues and the fire of rock 'n roll. This is a FREE show!

We encourage buying your tickets in advance; a few recent shows have been very well attended and we don't want anyone to miss out on a great evening with some of the best acoustic musicians in the area. You won't regret making these shows - and the others on our Event Calendar - part of your musical planning for the upcoming months. Take a few minutes to look over the calendar and nail down those tickets today!

April 2026 Newsletter

By-Laws amended by Board - 09 December, 2025

In December, the HTMA Board met to review several agenda items, including review of several of the existing By-Laws. Several amendments were approved at that meeting and the updated By-Laws can be found in the By-Laws section, found by clicking "Newsletters" on the top Home Page menu (see image). The previous By-Laws, approved in September 2006, can also be found there.

The following amendments were approved on that date:

Page 2 - Publicity and Publications Chair positions consolidated into one Chair position to be called Communications Chair.
Page 4 - In the first paragraph under Financial Principles, added the word "Board" in the sentence to read "Compensation for HTMA Board members performing in our presentations will be limited to expenses."
Page 4 - In the second paragraph under Financial Principles, deleted the final sentence.

EASY TO GET LOST?? We have help!

Recently we've had a few people confide that they have trouble finding our studio #1038 at Lowe Mill.

The best way to reach the studio is by Door #4. There are other ways, but Door #4 is the shortest walk and has an accessible entrance. Once you enter the main (north) Lowe Mill parking lot, park as close as you can to Door #4. Enter the door, then turn right at the second hallway.The HTMA studio is just a little way down that hallway.
